[Essay]: Qudwah Hasanah

"Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”- Alphonse de Lamartine, French philosopher and statesman.

Do you know the most used name in the world?

Do you now the most read book in the world are revealed to whom?

The questions above are now a cliché yet a miracle as the answer is a man who often labeled as a terrorist, sadist and despot.

Muhammad.

There must be something in this person that makes his name the most used in the Earth, defeating Jesus and Moses. There must be something that attracts people to read again and again the book that was revealed to him, till the point Tony Blair said, “I read the Quran daily to keep me faith-literate”.

In the Quran, in a chapter named as the Pen (thus decimating the accuses on Islam for being a backward, archaic, primordial, ancient, irrelevant and anti-movement religion), Allah clearly declared that, “ In you (Muhammad), lies an exemplary ethics (akhlaq)”. In another chapter, Allah clarifies that this illiterate man from an unknown desert as Gibbon said, the Qudwah Hasanah.

What is Qudwah Hasanah?

Let’s make an analogy to get a better understanding regarding the term. When people talking about Physics, the first figure to appear in their mind is Isaac Newton When we talking about Biology, the name Charles Darwin will be automatically appeared in our mind. Qudwah Hasanah is something like that. A prominent figure that keeps flashing in your mind and no one can dispute of their position.

Still, Newton’s cup of tea is Physics and Darwin’s favourite soup is Biology. The modern figures only aced in one or two fields but this man, whose name is Muhammad is the master of all thus made him the best Qudwah Hasanah, as quoted above by Lamartine declared to us.

Need proofs? I will give you loads of them :)

Muhammad as A Family Man

Let’s start from the basic circle of life; family. A family comprises of a father, a mother and their children. Family is the first atmosphere every man gets the chance to lead, a women to govern and a child to learn the fundamentals of life from his or her parents. Sadly, staggering statistics showed us that number of divorces are rocketing and increasing by each year.

Yet, we can see that the smiling bride in the wedding pictures are radiant with smile, perfect complexion and angelic faces. In shorter words, they all are perfect. But why their marriage crumbled despite all of their perfection? The answer lies at the core. Love does not exist at all in the first place.

Muhammad, peace be upon him showed us the best example in marriage. Many reports from his wives that he even washed the dishes, cook the food and sewn his own shoes and his family’ clothes. One famous story was narrated by his wife, Aisha radhiallahuanha,

“One night, the Prophet came home late. I waited for him until I undeliberately dozed off in my waiting. When I woke up, I was in a shocked state and quickly opened the door. I was stunned as the Prophet was lying on the doorstep with his shawl covered his body from dust. I felt guilty as it was the Messenger of God who lied at his own doorstep! But, before I had the chance to say sorry, the Prophet rose and put a finger on my lips. He said, “I’m sorry for being late”.”

Muhammad as a Paragon of Love

What is love for you? Love is an abstract concept, thus making it virtually impossible to create a definite meaning of love. Different people express different meaning about love. Some talk about passion and the heat of love, some based on daring and brave acts in expressing love and some go far by making sacrifices and kill in the name for love.

But, let me tell you a genuine and authentic love story.

Before you and your father and your grandfathers and those before them were born, a man loved you. He didn’t know where are you or who are you, but he included you under his wings of compassion and love. 1400 years before you found your lover, someone have loved you.

This is a remarkable act of love!

Once the tribulation in Mecca has tripled, the Prophet decided to expand his preaching theories to Taif, a town south of Mecca. Instead of his words heard by the villagers, the Taif elders congregated all children in the town and sent them to toss rocks and stones to the Prophet. The children taunted the Prophet’s convoy, hurling rocks non-stop at them and there are reports the Prophet’s blood were pooling until you can hear his sandals splashing with his own blood. After the tragedy, Gabriel descended from the high heavens and offered to hurl two mountains and decimate the Taif villagers.

If you are the Prophet, who people threw you vulgar words and rocks at you when you tried to preach the truth, until your body ached and splintered. Your robes were red with blood and someone offer you to bludgeon the people who did this harm to you, what is you decision? Most will accept.

But the prophet said, “Forgive them for they did not know and blind from the truth. If they do not believe, their sons and grandsons will. Let them be”.

Remarkable act! He shed blood, tears and sweat for someone he did not even know to exist!

On one occasion, he sat with his companions and asked them,” Do you know who I loved the most?”. Some of the Companions answered, “Angels!”, “We, your companions!”. But the Prophet shook his head. He answered, “The ones I loved the most is the ones who never see me in the face, eat and congregate with me, but he hold my Sunnah firmly in the end of times”.

Muhammad as Adept Statesman

The West boasted for their supremacy in law and order. But open your eyes, where the theatre of world war occured in less than 20 years? In which region of the world shed blood for revolution, ideology and regimes more than any stretch of land in the world?

Long before the Magna Carta, the treatise commonly perceived as the first written law in the world, the Medina Constitution has been established in the first Islamic State of Medina. The code was agreed by all parts of Medina, Muslims, Jews and others alike. Discrimination and usury were prohibited. Every religion was given full permission to conduct their own customs and beliefs.

Can you tell me what happened in France, the land which “Liberté, égalité, fraternité” cries echoed in the seas of mayhem and blood? They preached and propagated of an equal country, but when Muslims demand for their right to practice our beliefs equally as other belief, the headscarf was banned in public! West cries for democracy is the joke of the century!

When the Prophet walked back in the street of the city who caused so much sufferings and strife to whim, the cities whom residents once put camels’ droppings on his back when he prostrated in the city, what did the Prophet did? When the Crusaders conquered Jerusalem, they put Muslims, Christians and Jews to the sword. The massacre was so grotesque until their own historians labeled their acts as “godless”. When Hulagu Khan captured Baghdad, the city was sacked, near a million of inhabitants were killed and baby flung from above of the walls. But what did the Prophet do when he captured Mecca?

He simply said, “Today, I forgive you like Joseph forgave his brethren. You all are free to go”. Some of his followers thought that act was insane but the Prophet insisted no blood would be shed and swords were locked in the sheaths.

O man, can you show me an act of valor and chivalry more than this illiterate man? Can you show me a man who become a family man in the same time he governed a state and uphold justice and equality?

I can continue on and on but these points will suffice. Open your eyes and free yourself from the bias of racism and nationalism, and behold the truth..:)
